A choice that changes everything
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30, NLT
What if I told you that you were in control of what kind of day you would have? You have the power to decide if you’re going to have a good day or a bad day. I bet you’re asking “What do you mean that I have a choice? I just received a text that shattered my world. My coworker just slammed my character in front of everyone. Do you really think I can have a good day with all this happening?” There are so many more questions that can be asked. How can we have a good day even in the middle of heartache and pain?
It’s about a choice. A choice that changes everything.
Choose your attitude
No matter what happens in our day, we have the power to choose what our attitude is going to be. Are we going to let the circumstances of life pull us down? Or will we choose to keep our eyes upon the only One that is constant in our life? Will we trust in ourselves or trust in God?
We are the only ones who can choose to have a good day. No one else can make this choice for us.
Turn to God
How do we choose to have a good day? By turning to the God who holds the world in the palm of His hands. We need to give all that weighs heavy on our hearts to the One who sees everything and cares about every detail in our lives. When we place it all in God’s hands and choose to focus on Him instead of our circumstances, we can have a good day. In fact, our day can be great!
Not easy to do
This isn’t easy to do. I know as it is still a struggle for me. It’s hard to keep focused when the world around me is falling apart. But, I am going to keep making the choice that changes everything. Why? Because I know what it’s like to feel deep heartache and yet also feel deep joy and peace. The weight is lifted when I place my burdens in God’s hands. And as I trust God more, I realize again and again how much He loves me and that His plan is greater.
How about you? What kind of day will you have? It’s your choice. A choice that changes everything.
Heavenly Father, I do have a choice each day. I want to make a choice that shows I completely trust in You. You have come through before. Instead of my circumstances, I want to focus on You. Thank You that you never change and that I can count on You. Help me to make the choice that changes everything. I love you, Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
