The Power of One Word (Free Printable Included)
One word. This phrase is one I have heard countless times from my friends and others around me. I decided to look into it. Why have just one word for the year? There is power in one word. In today’s post, I share the why, the how and my one word for the year.
Why one word?
As I researched the one-word concept, I loved what I found. The reason to pick one word for the year is to help you grow. The one word gives focus to how you want to approach the year. It helps you determine who you want to become by the end of the year. So, how do you pick just one word?
How to pick your one word
First, spend time praying for your one word. Ask God to give you wisdom. Think about who you want to become by the end of the year. Next, make a brainstorm list of all the words you can think of. Here are a few ideas to get you going.
Pull out the top three from your word list and spend more time praying over those words. Again, ask God for wisdom. He knows more than anyone who you can become by the end of the year.
After you have decided on a word, look up the definition to understand your word more. Next, spend time finding a scripture verse that goes along with it. I encourage you to memorize this scripture by the end of the year.
My One Word
My One word for 2018 is Praise. God placed this word on my heart at the end of last year. Too often, I found myself thinking the negative about situations. My grid from my childhood is negative and critical. Over the years, God has been working on changing this grid in my heart. I long to be a person of praise both verbally and in my mind. I also want to leave a new legacy for my kids. A legacy of praise.
I love having a scripture verse to go along with my one word of the year. God gave me my verse one morning during my devotional time. It was a powerful moment as I read Psalm 108:1 which reads “My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises with all my heart!” I wanted my life to be filled with praise. Not just any praise but praise with ALL my heart. Let it be Jesus!
I love the concept of one word and know how life-changing it can be. So, I created a free printable to guide you through the process of picking your one word for 2018. Click to download.
