Build Your Daughter’s Confidence
Do you know the difference between body-consciousness and body-confident? Which one would you rather your daughter be? I didn’t know the difference until I started reading Raising Body-confident Daughters: 8 Conversations to have with your Tween by Dannah Gresh.
This book starts with sharing the difference between being body-consciousness and being body-confident. I love how Dannah addressed our need to have our thoughts about our bodies based on God’s intended purpose. If we do this, we will experience God-esteem, not self-esteem. The second chapter in the book encourages Moms to look at how they feel about their bodies. This was convicting for me. How I look at my body will affect how my daughters look at their bodies. I am thankful for this tool to help me teach my daughters about the body God created and His great design for their life.
8 conversations
The next several chapters go into detail about eight different conversations to have with your daughter. I have really enjoyed the conversations Micaela, our 10-year-old, and I have been able to have. This past week, we had a conversation about how our bodies are God’s temple. We looked at scripture together to see what God says about our bodies.
I gave her a “Body Boost Basket” which was filled with things to take care of her body. It was a very sweet time to connect with just Micaela. I love that there is also a resource for Micaela as we go through this. It’s called It’s Great to be a Girl also by Dannah Gresh.
Micaela has enjoyed working through this on her own. This book reviews what our conversation was about. It also has some fun activities included in it.
You have a very key role in your daughter’s life. What will you teach her today? I highly recommend both of these resources to help you in this journey. It’s a great way to pour into your daughter by focusing on God’s truth and deepening your mother-daughter relationship. It will also help your daughter be more body confident.
