I Won’t Let You Fall
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore” –Psalm 125:2, NIV
The other day we decided to rearrange the pictures in our living room. It is always a task because when you move one, it often means you move many pictures to help it all balance well. Jonathan pulled out the hammer and nails to hang pictures in the new spot. Caleb, our 4-year-old, noticed and declared that he wanted to help. The particular picture Jonathan was about to hang was up pretty high. So, he hoisted Caleb on his shoulders.
At first, Caleb loved being up high helping Daddy. And then he tipped over to one side as Jonathan moved around. Immediately Caleb felt fear and expressed “I don’t want to fall!” Jonathan responded, “I won’t let you fall.”
Caleb wasn’t too convinced and asked to get down. Jonathan encouraged Caleb to trust him. He told Caleb “I’m holding you. You’re not going to go anywhere. You can’t jump out of my arms even if you tried.” Caleb finally relaxed and enjoyed working with Dad.
Jonathan’s response to Caleb reminded me so much of what God says to us. In our key verse for today taken from Psalm 125:2, we read “As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore.” What a promise! God surrounds us both now and forever more. He doesn’t protect us certain days of the week but every day, every hour, every second.
When we are children of God, He holds us. We can’t go outside of His love. We can’t jump out of His grasp even if we tried. This brings me great comfort and encouragement.
Another verse that came to mind as I listened to the conversation between Jonathan and Caleb is taken from Isaiah 41:10. It reads “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God is ALWAYS with us! He strengthens us and helps us. He upholds us with His hand.
I don’t know what you are facing today. What keeps you up at night or causes you to fear. But, I do know this. God wants to help you. He wants to strengthen you. God wants to remind you that you are not alone. Take a deep breath and rest in the arms of your Heavenly Daddy. God will not let you fall.
Heavenly Father, thank You for holding on to me. Help me to rest in the truth that You will not let me fall. I surrender all that is weighing me down. Please take it and help me to leave it in Your very capable hands. Thank You for surrounding me with Your love and caring so deeply about me. I love You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
