5 Simple Winter Family Fun Ideas
Winter is a time of year when we slow down a bit and spend more time inside. A time to cuddle under blankets and sit by the fire. Winter is also a great season for family fun. I encourage you to make a Winter bucket list with your family just like you did in the Fall. That way you can be intentional with family time.
What is a Winter Bucket List?
A Winter bucket list is a list of experiences you want to do during Winter. Making a Winter list is a great way to empower kids to think through what they would enjoy doing. The Winter family fun bucket list can include indoor and outdoor experiences. It can also include some outings. Below is a list of 5 simple ideas for you.
Photo a Day
During the winter months, have your kids take one photo a day. At the end of winter, create a slide show or even a film with these pictures. Add some music to the film and enjoy looking through the pictures.
Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt
Gather the family and a checklist of things to hunt for. You can find tons of free Winter Scavenger Hunt printables online. Go on a hunt for pinecones, snowmen, sticks, animal tracks, sleds, a snowy fence, etc. Take pictures of what you find on your scavenger hunt and have fun!
Play in the snow
Put on your winter gear and head outside to play in the snow. There are countless things to do in the snow. Have a snowman building contest. Build a snow fort or make snow angels. Enjoy a snowball fight. Have fun creating memories in the snow! Be sure to warm up with hot chocolate afterward.
Host a Sledding Party
Do you have a slope or hill in your yard? If so, it’s time to invite some friends over for a sledding party. If you don’t have a slope or hill in your yard, no problem. Find one near you at a park or a friend’s house. Invite another family to come sledding with you. This sledding party will create hours of winter fun!
Go to a Museum
Museums are a great activity for family fun in the winter. I loved going to museums as a kid. Look for a nearby children’s museum. Be sure to look into art and history museums too. They are fascinating places where kids are sure to learn something new and even enjoy it.
