My Word of the Year for 2023

Word of the Year. This phrase is one I have heard countless times from my friends and others around me. Several years ago, I decided to look into it. Why have just one word for the year? There is power in one word. In today’s post, I share the why and my word of the year.

Why have one word?

As I researched the one-word concept, I loved what I found. The reason to pick one word for the year is to help you grow. The one word gives focus to how you want to approach the year. It helps you determine who you want to become by the end of the year. So, how do you pick just one word? Read this blog post for five simple steps to pick your one word.

My Word of the Year

My Word of the Year for 2023 is steadfast. God placed this word on my heart at the end of last year. He has been speaking to me about the importance of remaining steadfast in Him no matter what comes my way. This past year was very full and challenging in many ways. Too often, I let my circumstances shake me.

God is calling me to trust Him. To not let the things of life move me. God wants me to choose to believe He is good and that He will work all things out for my good. (Romans 8:28

The definition of the word steadfast according to dictionary.com is so powerful:

fixed in direction; steadily directed: and unwavering, as resolution, faith, adherence, etc.

It’s such a powerful reminder to keep my eyes on Jesus instead of my circumstances. To be unwavering in my faith. This is what I want to grow in doing this year.

Steadfast Scripture Verse

I love having a scripture verse to go along with my word of the year. The verse I chose is Isaiah 26:3 which reads You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

This scripture verse reminds me to keep my mind steadfast on God. Instead of worrying or doubting when I am going through a tough circumstance, I will choose to trust God. To come back to His word and dwell on God's truth instead.

My Business Word of the Year

This year, I felt a tug on my heart from God to have a business Word of the Year. As an Author, Speaker, and FASTer Way to Fat Loss Certified Coach, my days are full and it’s easy to get overwhelmed.

Instead of letting it overwhelm me, I am going to commit each day to God. I am going to ask Him for wisdom on how to use my days instead of pushing forward with my own plans. As I prayed about it, I decided to have commit as my business word of the year. The definition of commit according to dictionary.com is:

to give in trust or charge, especially for safekeeping;

When I commit my days and plans to God, I am declaring that I trust Him and I can’t do it on my own strength. I recognize that God is in charge and His plan is always good.

Scripture Verse for my Business One Word

The scripture verse for my business word of the year is Proverbs 16:3, which reads Commit to the Lord whatever you do,  and He will establish your plans.

In Hebrew, commit literally means “to roll.” I am going to literally roll my plans and ideas to the Lord each day. I desire to be in the practice of giving it all over to God and depending on Him alone. As I commit my business and work to God, I know I will grow even closer to Him and be more in line with His plans.
