My Goals for 2017 + Some Habits
It’s a new year! This past weekend I worked on fine-tuning my personal goals for 2017. I am excited to see what God has in store for this year.
My goals are broken down by categories. This was something I learned from Crystal Paine’s Make Over Your Year course. My four categories are Myself, Marriage, Motherhood, and My Community. In this post, I will share the Myself and Marriage Goals. I will also share about the Habits I am working on developing.
Myself Goals
1. Read 10-12 books related to personal growth
I love to learn! There are so many ways I can grow to be more like Jesus. One of the ways I learn is by reading books and gleaning wisdom from other authors. I am reading You are Free by Rebekah Lyons this month.
2. Get to and maintain ideal weight
This past year I was limited in my exercise routine because of injury and then surgery. As a result, I gained some extra weight. My goal is to be at my ideal weight by the end of the year. Hopefully sooner!
3. Be able to speak from memory 40 scripture verses
As a family, we are memorizing a scripture verse each week. Personally, I want to take it a step further. Not only do I want to memorize, I want to continue to review the verses throughout the year. By the end of this year, I want to be able to recite from memory forty of the scripture verses.
4. Scrapbook for 30 minutes once a week
Scrapbooking is so life-giving and refreshing for me. This year, I want to spend more time doing that.
5. Be able to recite the books of the Bible in order
There are 66 books of the bible. I have a general idea of where each book is. This year, I want to memorize the order so I can be surer of where each book is.
Marriage Goals
1. Read 6-8 marriage books
As I mentioned earlier, there are so many ways I need to grow. I desire to be the wife God wants me to be. This year, I would like to read books to help me with this. This month, I have started 9 Thoughts That Can Change Your Marriage by Sheila Ray Gregoire. I will finish this book next month.
2. Follow a weekly plan to intentionally speak Jonathan’s primary love language
Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman is a book that opened my eyes to how we need to communicate love. Jonathan and I have very different love languages. Early in our marriage, I tried to love him with my top love languages. It didn’t work and I ended up frustrated. Through this book, I learned that I need to speak Jonathan’s love languages.
3. Pray daily for Jonathan
Jonathan is my most important earthly relationship. One of the best ways I can love Jonathan is to pray for him. God moves mountains when we pray.
Habits that I am working on
30-second kiss– I read a book called 30 days to a Happy Husband by Arlene Pellicane. One of my biggest takeaways from this book was making sure you take the time to kiss your husband each day. Arelene suggested a 30-second kiss. This year, I am going to focus on developing this habit.
Pause for 5-10 minutes– I love to get things done. There is something so satisfying about crossing off a to-do on my list. Being this way is a good thing, but I often find myself plowing through my day. I am going to practice pausing and sitting still for 5-10 minutes each day. The only thing I plan to do during this time is to rededicate my day back to Jesus and ask Him to guide my steps for the rest of my day. The rest of that time will be just sitting in silence. It’s going to be tough for me but also refreshing.
Next week, I will cover my Motherhood and My Community Goals. I also have some Big Dreams for this year that I look forward to sharing with you.

You and Jonathan do a great job of being intentional. You both are a blessing to me.
Friend, you are a true inspiration to me! I love your heart and your desire to be all God wants you to be! You have made an enormous impact on my life spiritually. Thank you for sharing your heart with all of us! I’m setting some goals too but my list isn’t complete just yet ♡
