Holding Tight
“Look at those waves!! They are huge!!β exclaimed our four kids as they jumped up and down. The waves quickly washed up any creation in the sand. As they thundered in, it looked like mountains compared to some of my kids.
This summer, we spent time on Lake Michigan for our family vacation. On this particular morning, we stood amazed at the power of the waves. The younger two kids put their feet in the water and that was enough for them. They quickly busied themselves with playing in the sand. The older two kids ventured out a little further but not much. I soaked it all in and enjoyed my spot on the sand.
Step into the water
As soon as my husband went into the water, the older kids grabbed hold of his hand and stepped out a little further into the waves. I watched my kids get a little taller as they held on to Daddy. They ventured out further and further. The waves came at them and they held tight to Daddyβs hand. From my spot on the beach, I watched my kids. I felt the scare in my kids, watched the hold get tighter, and then relax some when they realized Daddy wasnβt to let them get hurt.
It was in the moment that God whispered to my heart, “Will you take a step into the raging waves? DoΒ you trust me as your kids are trusting their Dad? Will you hold tight to my hand and relax because I have everything under control? I wonβt let you get hurt, my daughter. I will take care of you.”
As I listened to the voice of my Daddy, tears streamed down my face. God has proven faithful again and again. How could I not trust Him in the waves of life? Why wouldnβt I take His hand and hold tight? I resolved at that moment to take my Daddyβs hand and hold tight no matter what the size the waves of life. In the hard times and the good times. And I resolved to relax in His embrace because He will take care of me.
How about you? Are you holding tight to your Daddyβs hand when the waves of life come at you?
