Let’s Go to the Moon

When is the last time you took a trip to the moon? For our family, it was this afternoon. We really enjoyed our adventure on the moon. The weather was perfect. The kids LOVE going to the moon! What started as a random idea has turned into something very special for our kids.

Last summer, I asked my kids to get on their sunglasses, helmets and prepare their rocket ships for takeoff.  I let them know we were going to the Moon. They looked at me like I was crazy. My oldest even commented “This is so boring!” without even knowing what was next. I remember thinking “Maybe this is a crazy idea.” But, I pushed through my own resistance and comments from my kids and went ahead with my idea.

June 2014

3, 2, 1 blast off! We all landed safely on the moon. We stepped carefully out of our spaceships and looked over the moon. The Moon is our subdivision. It’s a large circle area that is almost a half mile around. In the center, there is tall grass and wildflowers.

We imagined what it would be like to live on the moon. The kids shared what they thought we would eat and the activities we could do. Next, we loaded back into our rocket ships and circled the Moon several times. The kids had a blast that day and have talked about it ever since.

Anytime we go by that area, the kids ask “When can we go to the moon?” They also exclaim about the changes being made to the Moon. There are now four homes on that land. I am so glad I pushed through my own resistance and the kid’s comments that day. We all would have missed out on so much.  And now we have a new tradition.

So, how about you? What adventure will you go on today? Push through any resistance and have fun!
