My Word of the Year for 2022

If you haven't picked a Word of the Year for 2022 yet, no worries! There is still time to pick your word.

I first learned about the Word of the Year concept in 2018. Several of my friends had one and I wanted to know what the hype was. I learned that a Word of the Year gives you a growth focus for the year.

The word is meant to represent a central way you are depending on God in the year to come. It helps you determine whom you want to become by the end of the year.

When you have a word of the year, it helps you to be intentional about how you spend the hours, days, and months of the year.

Word of the Year for 2022

The word God put on my heart for this year is joy. I know this is something I need to grow in. I want to have joy no matter what is happening in my life. God is already using this word in powerful ways.

Joy is a choice each day. It is something that comes from deep within. As I look around me, I am becoming more aware of how much there is to take joy in. I am on a mission to chase joy this year.

God is the one who fills us with joy. In fact, the scripture verse that goes along with my word of the year is:

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.Romans 15:13, NIV

I love that God fills us with ALL joy, not just some but ALL joy. Pretty amazing, right?

What does the word joy mean?

Each time I pick out a word of the year, I look up the definition in the dictionary to understand what my word means. The Dictionary.com defines joy as:  "the emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying; keen pleasure; elation:"

This year I will grow in chasing the joy of the Lord. Each day I will choose joy and reflect on all that God has done for me. No matter what is happening around me in the world or in my life, I will choose to be diligent in looking for joy.
