5 Bible Verses to Help Beat the Winter Blues

It's that time of year when the weather is cold, we don't see much sun, and we are often stuck inside. This is the time of year people struggle with feeling down. The winter blues are a reality for so many.

When I have struggled with the winter blues, one thing that has been helpful for me is turning to the Scriptures. God's Word is filled with lots of promises, encouragement, and wisdom. Today, I am going to share 5 of those encouraging Bible verses to help beat the winter blues.

Matthew 11:28

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

This time of year our feelings can weigh us down. It feels like we are carrying a heavy burden. We have to remember that we are not meant to carry our burdens alone. First and foremost, we need to let Jesus carry our burdens. In this Scripture verse, Jesus wants us to come to Him and give Him our burdens.

Jesus has also provided friends and family to help us carry our burdens. Reach out by text or a phone call to a friend or family member when you are feeling down. They can carry your burden to the Lord in prayer.

Isaiah 26:3

"You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!"

When you take the time to fix your thoughts on Jesus, your other thoughts take a backseat. How do we do fix our thoughts on Jesus? Name the other thought out loud and ask Jesus to fill your mind with His truth.

Read God's word and find Scriptures that speak the truth. We will see and feel a difference in our attitudes and mindsets. Guaranteed!

If you're like me, you may have to take a deep breath, trust, and refocus on Jesus more than once throughout the day. His perfect peace will come.

Joshua 1:9

"This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go."

The Lord is with you wherever you go. Did you catch that? God, the creator of the universe, is WITH you!! Even when you are struggling, God is right beside you filling you up with whatever you need. God doesn't want you to fear or be discouraged no matter what is happening around you.

Lean into the Lord your God and be STRONG in Him! Reflect on the many times God has been there for you over the years. Sometimes even writing down a list of the ways God has worked will help you to see His faithfulness.

Psalm 3:3

"But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high."

The winter blues are real and sometimes it is hard to just get up for the day. We would rather stay in bed and not face whatever is happening.

May I encourage you to think about getting out of bed in a different way? In this Scripture, God states that He is the one who holds our head high. So even when we feel like we can't face the day, let's remember that the Creator of the Universes is personally involved in our lives. He is holding our heads high.

God is also a shield around us. He is protecting us and caring for all our needs. The next time you feel like you can't get out of bed, I encourage you to remember this Scripture verse. God is with you!

Romans 15:13

"I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit."

The last verse I want to share today is one of my favorites. And actually my scripture verse for 2022. As you work through the winter blues, this Scripture verse is my prayer for you. May God, the source of YOUR hope, fill you COMPLETELY with JOY and PEACE as you trust in Him. Friend, you will OVERFLOW with confident hope because of the Holy Spirit.

Beat the Winter Blues

Sweet friend, my prayer is that these 5 Bible verses are a refreshment for your weary soul. God's Word is powerful. Let it take on new meaning for you this Winter season.

My prayer is that no matter when you feel the winter blues, you will remember that God is with you and He is holding you close. Look up to God when you are feeling down. Lean into His love and grace today.

Please comment below and share which Scripture verse impacted you the most and why. I look forward to hearing from you.

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 spoke to me because it’s very familiar.
