Never Stop Praying. Say What?

Always be joyful. Never Stop Praying. Be thankful in all circumstances. Say what? How in the world do you do this? When I read these commands in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, I really wondered if they were doable or impossible. After spending time studying these verses, I realized they were doable.

The one command that I’ve been thinking about more is Never Stop Praying. I’ll be totally honest, this command is hard for me. Prayer is powerful yet I struggle to make it a priority. In a blog post from earlier this year titled Doable or Impossible, I mentioned a few ways to incorporate prayer into your day. Today, I am going to share another strategy I use to help me to never stop praying.

Laundry

Every week, I wash and fold laundry. This task can be overwhelming with the amount of laundry. Honestly, it is a task that I don’t enjoy that much. Until God gave me an idea to make it more doable and actually fun.

Now when I fold laundry, I pray for my family members. As I fold a clothing item, this is how I pray:

Shirts and Pants

I pray that my husband and kids will clothe themselves in the fruit of the Spirit.

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” –Galatians 5:22-23

Socks

I pray that they will walk with God all the days of their lives.

“Love the Lord your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.” –Joshua 22:5

I also pray that my husband and kids will walk in the truth of who God made them to be.

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”  -3 John 4:4

Underwear

I pray for my husband and kid’s purity in mind and body.

And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” -1 John 3:3

Attitude

I enjoy folding laundry so much more than I used to. It goes so much faster because I have a better attitude. The mountains of laundry aren’t as overwhelming now. I love being able to pray for my husband and children while doing an everyday task.

How about you? Do you enjoy folding laundry? Hopefully, this idea helps folding laundry become more enjoyable.  If you try this idea, I would love to hear how God uses it in your life. Please comment below.
