The Superpower of Kindness
Would you consider yourself a kind person? Are you characterized by kindness? I want to say that I am. After hearing Shaunti Feldhahn speak this past Friday, I began to wonder how kind I really am.
Shaunti spoke during the first main session at Hearts at Home. She shared so many wonderful thoughts. In this post, I will share a few.
Thriving
βWhether you thrive in life and relationships depends more on you than other people.βΒ Phew! Can we say conviction? This challenges me to be kind even when I donβt really want to be. We canβt control others but we can control how we respond to others.
Life evidenced by kindness
As believers, kindness needs to be evident in our lives. In Luke 6:35, we read βBut love your enemies, do good to them,Β and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be childrenΒ of the Most HighΒ because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.β We are being like Jesus when we are kind.
Patterns of Unkindness
In Shauntiβs book called The Kindness Challenge, she addresses the seven patterns of unkindness. During the main session, she shared two of the patterns; exasperation and unconscious criticism. There is so much unkindness that comes from us each day without us even realizing it. Again, I was convicted and challenged to look at my life.
Training Ground
One more thought that Shaunti shared was that we need a training ground to help us be kind. The 30-day kindness challenge is a good place to start. The challenge involves picking one relationship in your life that you want to see improvement in. The Kindness Challenge book and www.jointhekindnesschallenge.com go into more detail about the challenge. Shaunti commented that 89% of relationships are changed just by doing the kindness challenge. I plan to take this challenge and am looking forward to becoming more kind.
The 30-day challenge
Do you want to thrive in your life and relationships? Your life can be evidenced by kindness. I encourage you to take a look at your life and see what patterns of unkindness are present. Step onto the training ground and take the 30-day kindness challenge. Please comment below if youβre thinking about doing the 30-day kindness challenge. I am excited to see how this challenge helps our relationships.
