What Are You Fixing Your Thoughts On?
What are you fixing your thoughts on right now? HowΒ about a few minutes ago? The wayΒ we think can dictate our day. Our thoughtsΒ can be life changing. The mind is so powerful. Recently, I learned how powerful the mind really is.The other day I received a new ATM card in the mail. As I opened it up, I glanced at the sticker on the front that reminds you to activate your new card. I thought through when I could run to the Credit Union to activate my cardΒ and planned to go a few days later. The ATM card went in my wallet and didnβt think about it again.

My errand morning arrived. I went through the drive through at the Credit Union since I also needed to make a deposit. The plan wasΒ to swing back through to the ATM machine to activate my card. As I waited for the teller to finish my deposit, I pulled out my ATM card so I had it ready. It was then that I looked down at the card and actually read the sticker. Guess what the sticker said? It stated that I needed to call the number listed there to activate my card. Wait, what?!? You mean I didnβt have to make this trip out to the Credit Union at all? It was one of those moments were you feel a little embarrassed and a whole lot silly. If I would have taken a moment to read the sticker in the first place, I would have saved myself some time.
The mind is powerful
As I reflected on it more, I realized just how powerful the mind is. In the past, I have had to activate my new debit card at the ATM. So, when I received a new one in the mail, I assumed I had to do the same thing. I didn’t even bother to look at the sticker on the card. It’s amazing how the mind works. My brain dictated to me what to do from a previous memory. From there I actedΒ and didnβt think anything of it.
What we believe
Isnβt that how life is? We let the things we learned from our growing up years dictate what we believe about ourselves. Sometimes what we believe is Godβs truth about us. And other times we believe the lies that were ingrained in us. They were taught as truth but in reality, they are Godβs truth. What label has been placed on you that doesnβt line up with Godβs truth about you? Ask the Holy Spirit to make it clear to you. After realizing what the labels are, I feel like it is so important to read βthe stickerβ of Godβs truth. Dig deep into the word and train your mind to think about Godβs truth.
Think about such things
One verse that I love and has become so important to me in this journey is Philippians 4:8 which states βFinally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirableβif anything is excellent or praiseworthyβthink about such things.β When a thought crosses my mind that is not true, I try to recite this verse. I also read other scripture verses to remind myself of Godβs truth. This has been a journey for me but one well worth going on.
