Worship
What is worship? According to Dictionary.com, the definition is “the object of adoring reverence or regard.” Who or what do you adore and regard? The other day, our daughter Analiah worshiped. God used this time to open my eyes about who I worship.
Each morning, we have a worship time before breakfast. The kids take turns picking the song. This particular morning, it was Analiah’s turn. She looked through the list and landed on one. After it started playing, Analiah was visibly upset. So, I paused the DVD and asked what was wrong. “I don’t want that song!” whined Analiah. With a prayer for patience and understanding, I calmly responded, “That is the one you picked, so we are going to stick with it.” Analiah folded her arms and started pouting. I encouraged her to focus on worshipping Jesus instead of herself. We continued on with our worship. Analiah continued sulking.
The Holy Spirit used this time to speak to my heart. How many times in life have situations not gone the way I wanted them to? So, then I find myself pouting and possibly even crossing my arms in frustration. How many times have I focused on myself and in the process worshiped myself? Ouch! Too many times to count. At that moment, I confessed my sin and asked the Holy Spirit to prompt me when I worship myself instead of God.
Analiah and I are both still working on not worshiping ourselves. How about you? When was the last time you pouted because something didn’t go the way you wanted it to? Will you join me in the asking the Holy Spirit to help you in this area? I am with you on this journey. I want to worship God alone.
Thank you Anastasia. I needed to read that this morning.
