My Word of the Year for 2020

At first, my Word of the Year was savor. I spent a lot of time reflecting and praying about it in the early part of December last year. I confidently moved forward and felt excited about learning to savor in 2020. And then, around December 27, I started to question. Is savor really my word for 2020? Several other words began to surface. As I prayed, sought counsel from Jonathan and a few of my close friends, I knew I needed to change my word. Savor is a great word but it wasn’t for me in 2020. The new word God put on my heart was trust.

My Word of the Year

It’s official and trust is my word of the year for 2020. God is already using this word in powerful ways.

I am slowly realizing just how much trust I have and don’t have. My trust in God definitely needs to grow. In fact, the scripture verse that goes along with my word of the year is:

The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.”  Psalm 28:7

What does it look like to trust God with all my heart? This year, I will be learning and I can’t wait to grow in that area.

What does the word trust mean?

Each time I pick out a word of the year, I look up the definition in the dictionary to understand what my word means. Honestly, the definition was a deciding factor for me in my word of the year. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines trust as:  “assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something

This year I will grow in having assured reliance on God’s character, ability, and strength. I am already learning to know God’s character more with a few situations in my life. It is hard to trust but I know growing in this area is worth it.
