The rest of my 2017 goals + My Big Dreams

Last week, I shared some of my 2017 goals and some habits I am working on. Today, I am going to share the rest of my personal goals (Motherhood and My Community) and my Big Dreams for 2017.

Motherhood Goals

Read 6-8 parenting books

As I have mentioned before, I love to read and learn. This year, I will also be reading parenting books to glean some more wisdom. Right now I am working on Preparing for Adolescence by Dr. James Dobson. Jonathan and I are reading You Can’t Make Me [But I Can Be Persuaded] by Cynthia Ulrich Tobias together. I have learned so much from both books already.

Have one on one time with each kid 1-2 times a week

One of the most important ways I can pour into my kids is by having one on one time with them each week. Ideally, I would like to do this one on one time every day. But, the reality is we have four kids (three who are in school full time) and it is just not feasible. I will do what I can with the time I have.

Pray for kids daily using their verse

Prayer is a powerful weapon. I want to be sure I am using it each day, especially for my kids. Each year, my husband and I pick out a scripture verse for each of our kids. Read about the process in this post. Every day, I would like to pray these scripture verses over their life.

My Community Goals

Pray for 10 minutes 4-5 days a week in the War Room

As I mentioned earlier, prayer is a powerful weapon. I love to intercede for people in prayer. My War Room was inspired by the movie War Room. Each week, I spend time praying for my family, friend’s requests, my pastors and their spouses and whoever else God brings to mind.

Write one handwritten encouraging note a week

I choose this goal to be more intentional in my encouragement. I specifically chose handwritten because it’s easy to encourage by text, Facebook, Facebook messenger, etc. When I take the time to hand write a note, it causes me to pause and really think about how I can encourage someone. I also love real mail! Hopefully, the recipient will experience some joy when they get my note in the mail.

Send out Birthday cards to Extended Family each month
As I mentioned above, I love real mail! So, I want to send more of it this year.Β  I am going to start with extended family and see how it goes. Birthdays are important to me because they celebrate the gift of life. So, I want the recipient to know that I celebrate the gift of their life.

Big Dreams for 2017

When my husband and I started doing Family Goals, we decided to also have Big Dreams. I have transferred this over to my personal goals too. Big Dreams are something that seems impossible for the year. Big Dreams are motivating for me because it’s something to work towards. My Big Dreams are also the desires that I can keep surrendering to God and see how He works them out.

-Read 35 non-fiction books

-Teach myself to play one worship song on the piano

-Run two 10K races

-Write another book

Thanks for taking the time to read my goals and big dreams. It has been fun to reflect on them. What are some of your 2017 goals? Do you have Big Dreams? If so, what are they? I would love to hear about them. Please share in the comments.
