5 Promises of God to be Thankful For
It’s been a week since we celebrated Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving not only because of the food but more importantly because of the focus on gratitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Today, I am going to share five promises of God to be thankful for.
God’s word is filled with promises. There are promises specific to the nation of Israel and promises that apply also to those who know Jesus. We can fully trust God’s word because it comes straight from Him.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” 2 Timothy 3:16
The Promise of Presence
“God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
God has promised His presence. This is an amazing gift! No matter where we go, God is with us. And even when we don’t feel His presence, we can remember this promise by reciting it out loud to reassure ourselves.
The Promise of Strength
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31
God has promised His strength. This isn’t a strength you can somehow attain on your own by working out because God’s strength is supernatural.
God is always ready to renew your strength. This is an offer that never runs out. Any time of day.
When you are weary, God strengthens you. You will soar on wings like eagles. What a beautiful picture!
The Promise of Completion
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
God promises completion. This is one of my favorite promises because it reminds me of how involved God is in my life.
God is involved in your life too. He continues to shape and mold you to be more like Jesus. God cares so deeply and wants you to walk in more freedom. Lean into this promise!
The Promise of Rest
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
God promises rest. How amazing is that? The rest God promises is true rest. It’s not just a quick nap and you feel more alert. God’s rest is everlasting and empowers you in a way a long Sunday afternoon nap never could.
God’s rest involves giving over your burdens to Him. Your burdens aren’t a load God intended you to carry. Once you give them over, you can truly rest.
The Promise of Wisdom
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5
God promises wisdom. All that you have to do is ask. Plain and simple. You don’t need to be a certain way to get this wisdom. You just need to ask.
The wisdom God gives is generously given. Not just a little bit or only one time. God’s wisdom is a promise available anytime.
