My Favorite Christmas Tradition

Waiting for Mom and Dad to wake up. All coming downstairs together. Stockings. The same Christmas song record playing. Christmas Breakfast. The list of my childhood Christmas traditions goes on and on.

When Jonathan and I began our family, we decided to keep some of our childhood traditions but also create our own.

Traditions

I love traditions. Why? Traditions are a fun way for kids to feel connected to whatever event they are celebrating. I love all of our family traditions but my favorite one is reading the Christmas story.

After our Christmas breakfast, we gather together on the couch. Jonathan pulls out his Bible and turns to Luke 2:1-20. We all listen as he reads the story of Jesusโ€™ birth.

The best gift

Jesus was born in a stable over 2,000 years ago. He didnโ€™t come with fanfare. It was a quiet evening that will forever impact all of the human race. Even though I have heard the story of Jesus countless times, I still feel the excitement of the night. I imagine the angel visiting the shepherds to share about Jesusโ€™ birth. I can picture the look of shock on all their faces when all the other angels appeared to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

As Jonathan reads, I also imagine all the shepherds running to see Jesus. And l love how they found Jesus exactly as the angel described it. Next, they ran off to tell everyone what they had seen and heard. The shepherds challenge me to always be sharing the gift of Jesus.

My favorite

My favorite part about Christmas is Jesus, the greatest gift of all. He is the reason we celebrate Christmas. Jesus came as a baby so you and I may have eternal life. Itโ€™s a free gift. Have you received the greatest gift of all? I hope so!

What is your favorite Christmas tradition? Please share it in the comments below. I look forward to reading about your Christmas traditions.

Have a very Merry Christmas!!
