Fun Things to Do on July 4th with Your Family
July 4th is just around the corner. Are you ready to have some fun with your family? Here are seven family fun ideas to do on July 4th.
Fireworks
Is there a fireworks show nearby? If so, make plans to go as a family to see the fireworks. If there isn’t a fireworks show, consider doing your own in the backyard, There are so many fireworks to choose from. We love pop-its, smoke bombs, and sparklers. When our kids were younger, we used a red cup to protect our kid’s hands from the sparkler. Fireworks are so much fun and bring lots of joy!
Watch a Patriotic movie
Set up an outdoor movie theater outside and watch a patriotic movie. Gather snacks, candy, and popcorn to enjoy while watching the movie. Some family-friendly movie options are An American Tale, The Sandlot, National Treasure, Miracle, and A League of Their Own.
Host a Neighborhood Cookout
Invite your neighbors over for a 4th of July cookout. You could provide the meat and ask neighbors to bring a side to share. Or feel free to provide all the food. Dress up in red, white, and blue. Decorate your patio or deck with red, white, and blue decorations. Enjoy celebrating!
Make Red, White, and Blue Ice Cubes
Several years ago, I made some red, white, and blue ice cubes. The kids loved them! I used fruit punch Gatorade, cool blue Gatorade, and frost glacier cherry Gatorade. I filled regular ice trays with each flavor. You could also use these large ice cube trays to make your red, white, and blue ice cubes. Have fun!
Go on a Bike Ride
Go on a bike ride to a favorite picnic spot. Gather some easy and favorite foods for your picnic. Be sure to include a red, white, and blue treat. Pack it all in a backpack and load up on your bikes. Head to a nearby picnic area and enjoy your lunch or dinner together as a family. If your kids are young and not able to bike as far, drive to the spot and bike a shorter distance to the picnic spot.
Hang an American flag
Do you own a large American flag? If so, be sure to hang it for July 4th either on the flag pole or in the window. As a family, talk about the history of the American flag. It is a great way to know more about our country. Here is a great article about the American flag.
Make a Flag cake
One of my favorite memories from the July 4th picnics my Grandparents hosted was the Flag cake. As a kid, I loved it and thought it was so cool. I still love it and I think your kids will too! Here is a recipe for the Flag Cake. The picture below is taken from WellPlated.com. Enjoy eating a yummy patriotic cake.
