Every Scar Tells a Story
Every scar tells a story. I am sure you can remember the story of how you received the scar. Many of you could even tell every detail of what happened that day. We all have physical scars that are visible from the outside. But, what about the scars that are on the inside? The ones that maybe only you know about and hurt more than the outside scars did.
The beautiful thing about the inside scars is that Jesus can bring healing to them. He wants to take away the pain from any experience that has scared you. Jesus wants to help us remove the bitterness, the unforgiveness and sadness we may still experience. Jesus is able. But, we need to let Him. Why is it that we don’t?
My daughter helped me to see why the other day. I changed out the PJs for the kids to some warmer ones. That night Micaela was very distraught about the pair she wore. She wanted the old pair back. I didn’t quite understand why. Honestly, I was a little annoyed with her about it. Micaela finally explained that she liked her Hello Kitty PJ shirt because she could feel her scab.
Holding on
That got me thinking. How often do we like to feel our scabs that often turn into scars? The scars then become such a part of us that it’s hard to let go. Our scars become our identity. We feel as though we have to hold on to them. Too often we justify our actions or how we see ourselves because of our scars. Others say things and wound us because so it must be true.
The truth is our identity is in Jesus alone, not in our scars. Let me say that again. Our identity is in Jesus alone. And He wants to heal every one of our scars. Jesus came so that we could have wholeness and eternal life. Will you release your scars to Jesus? Will you let Him alone be your identity? It takes time and it is scary to let go. But, Jesus is with you every step of the way.
Let the healing begin…
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord.” -Jeremiah 30:17a
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” –Psalm 147:3
What a great word and analogy.
