Update on my 2017 Goals + Habits
It’s already March! Wow, I can’t believe how fast this year is going. I wanted to give an update on how I am doing with my goals for this year. I will break it into two different posts. This post is about Myself and Marriage Goals. I have also included an update on my habits for the year.
Myself Goals
Read 10-12 books related to personal growth
This averages out to about a book a month. In January I read You are Free by Rebekah Lyons. I love this book and highly recommend it. See my notes on the book in this post. In February, I read Loving My Actual Life by Alexandra Kuykendall. I really enjoyed this book. The author did an experiment to help her love the life she already has. I was challenged by what she wrote. This is another book I would recommend. The book I plan to read this month is Never Unfriended by Lisa-Jo Baker. I am privileged to be on the Book Launch Team for this book. It has been great so far.
Get to and maintain goal weight
I have lost a few pounds which is encouraging. I still struggle with my portions but will continue to work on this.
Be able to speak from memory 40 verses by the end of the year
This goal has been so much fun! As a family, we are also working on Scripture memory too. We are using the ABC Scripture cards. This week’s verse is “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20
So far, I have memorized 10 verses. I need to make sure I am taking the time to review them though.
Scrapbook for 30 minutes once a week
I am happy to report I have met this goal each week besides last week. It has been so refreshing for me to take the time to scrapbook.
Be able to recite the books of the Bible in order by the end of the year
In January, I worked really hard on this goal. Last month, I slowed down a bit as things got busy. But, I think I have all the Old Testament down including some of the New Testament. I review the books of the Bible with a song. My kids absolutely love the song and often ask for it. In fact, our oldest Micaela has it down. It’s so fun to listen to them all sing.
Marriage Goals
Read 6-8 marriage books by December 31, 2017
I finished 9 Thoughts that Can Change Your Marriage at the end of February. This book was so good! Read more about what I liked in this post. This month, I am reading half of Hot Mama by Kathi Lipp and Erin Macpherson.
Follow a weekly plan to intentionally speak Jonathan’s primary love language
I feel like I am doing fairly well with this goal. It’s been a challenge for me as my love languages are so different but so worth the work!
Pray daily for Jonathan
This goal is also going well. I love that Jonathan and I generally end our days praying for one another. I also pray at other times for Jonathan but my favorite times are when we pray together.
Habits for 2017
30-second kiss daily– So far, this habit is going well. I need to be more intentional when my days get busy though. You know it’s going well when Caleb tells me “Mom, you love Daddy. And you like to kiss him too.” Why, yes I do!
Pause for 5-10 minutes in the middle of the day – Phew! This one has been tough. I know how beneficial it is to pause but I have not been taking time for this. Hopefully this next month, I will make this habit a priority.
On Monday, I will post an update about the rest of my goals and big dreams. How are you doing with your goals? I would love to hear an update from you too. Please comment below. Thanks!
