Discover, Remove and Adopt- My Goals for 2018

It’s a new year! I absolutely love new beginnings! One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 43:19 which reads “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” It reminds me that God is at work in my life. This year, I want to discover, remove and adopt. Read on to find out what this means for my goals in 2018.

This year, my goal categories are based on Luke 2:52 which reads “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.  As I prayed about and planned my goals, two words kept coming to mind. Simple and Intentional. As you read, you will notice my goals this year are simpler than last year. I also intend to be more intentional with my goals which is reflected in the wording.

Goals in wisdom (Intellect/knowledge)

Read through the entire Bible by December 31, 2018.

I am really excited for this goal! It has been at least 10 years since I have read the bible from beginning to end. This year, I am going to read it in the NLT (New Living Translation) version which is my favorite. I will be using The One Year Bible Expressions Bible to help me. I can’t wait to share what I am learning.

Be able to recite at least 31 scripture verses by memory by the end of the year.

God’s word is powerful which is why I am looking forward to filling my mind with it. This year I plan to go through Liz Curtis Higgs book called 31 Verses to Write on Your Heart. By the end of this year, my goal is to be able to recite all the verses by memory.

Goals in Stature (Health-physical/emotional)

Do something active for at least 20 minutes 5 days a week for 44 weeks of the year.

My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is why I want to take care of it. I am looking forward to feeling more fit.

Goals in relationship with God

Discover and implement three strategies to believe more completely that I am loved and accepted by God.

I long to grow in receiving the acceptance and love of God. It will be fun to discover this love, even more, this coming year by spending time in God’s word. As I memorize His word and read other books, I look forward to going deeper with Jesus.

Goals in relationship with men

Remove three things that create emotional distance and replace them with things that create closeness in our marriage relationship.

My marriage relationship with Jonathan is my most important earthly relationship. My desire is to always be looking for what I can do to strengthen it. I am excited to see what God shows me to remove so I can be even closer to Jonathan.

Adopt words and mannerisms that help our kids feel loved and accepted for who they are.

My heart’s cry is for our kids to never doubt how loved and accepted they are by me as their Mom. I recognize my actions don’t always communicate this which is why I want to adopt words and mannerisms to help my kids feel loved and accepted.

Pray 8 minutes a day 5 days a week in January. Add 2 minutes a month to the daily routine until December.

Prayer is a powerful weapon every believer has. Yet, I find myself not using it as often as I would like. This year I want to focus on making prayer more of a priority. The book called The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson really encouraged and challenged me this past year as I read it. I can’t wait to see all that God does this year in my prayer life.

My 2018 Goals

I hope you enjoyed reading about my goals for the year. As you probably gathered, I am pretty thrilled about the changes in my goals this year. I look forward to updating you as the year goes on.
