A Review of Holly and Nick Hate Christmas
Main CharactersHolly and Nick SettingOhio The First Line of the BookChristmas was so overrated. My Review Holly and Nick Hate Christmas is a fun and festive read! From the first chapters, I was hooked by the witty banter, laugh-out-loud moments, and the sparks flying between Holly and Nick. Betsy St. Amant blends humor, heart,…
Read More My sheep listen to my voice
We are surrounded by voices all day long. Some are audible, such as friends, family, coworkers, and the media. Others are in our own heads: fears, doubts, or the lies we’ve believed. But Jesus promises that His sheep will know His voice. The more time we spend in the Word, the easier it becomes to…
Read More Embrace the Challenges in Life
When a hard situation comes in life, how do you tend to respond? Do you question God and wonder what you did wrong? Or do you see the challenge as an opportunity to lean into God and become more like Him? In my life I responded in both ways. But, the more time I spend…

Read More This is the day the Lord has made
Every sunrise reminds us that today is a gift from God. It is not just another square on the calendar; it’s a day the Lord has made. Regardless of the circumstances we face, we can choose to rejoice. Why? Because our joy isn’t rooted in everything going right but in the unchanging goodness of our…

Read More My 2025 Word of the Year
Have you chosen your Word of the Year for 2025 yet? If not, don’t worry—there’s still time to choose one!
I first discovered the concept of a Word of the Year in 2018 after hearing a few friends talk about theirs. My friend’s enthusiasm sparked my curiosity and what I found was more than just a trendy idea. A word of the year became a meaningful way to approach each year with purpose.
Read More The Easy Way Out
The other day, my daughter Micaela was climbing down the side of her bunk bed making all sorts of noise. Next, she bounded onto her sister’s bed. Wouldn’t it have been much easier to just climb down the ladder? Apparently, it was a lot more fun that way.
Honestly, this incident reminded me of myself and how I sometimes approach life. I often want the easy way out. I would much rather go through a hard time quickly than deal with the pain and heartache. My heart breaks over broken relationships, loss of loved ones or injuries that take a while to heal. I want to get out of a hard time as quickly as I can, like my daughter Micaela wanted to get out of that bunk bed. But, God in His infinite wisdom uses these hard times to make me more like Jesus.
Read More You’re Still Okay
“Mom, Caleb won’t take my hand!” complained my older son Nathan. The other night we were gathered for dinner and about to pray. My husband and I placed the last few items on the table for our meal. Nathan laid his hand out flat and Caleb refused to place his hand on top. Nathan felt rejected and frustrated. Jonathan reminded Nathan that even though Caleb wouldn’t take his hand, Nathan was still okay. Jonathan asked Caleb to take Nathan’s hand. Caleb pouted about it but finally took Nathan’s hand. After thanking God for our meal, we enjoyed being together.
Read More I can do it myself
I can do it myself. This is a phrase I have used too many times. The other day, I was at Aldi. There was a father there who displayed this attitude. God used it to teach me about pride. Here is my story... In and Out. That’s what I needed to do the other day when I went grocery shopping at Aldi. I had an appointment and needed to be focused. With my list in hand, I charged forward. I had Caleb and 2 friends with me but the little boys were strapped in, so I knew I could move fast.
Corn Chips, Ketchup, Yogurt, Kidney beans into the cart as I breezed through my list. I pulled frozen chicken breasts from the freezer and in the process noticed a Dad with his adorable little girls. He was holding one and trying to keep the other close by but she preferred wandering. I sighed as I remembered those early days. I felt the feelings with the Dad as he kept track of his young girls. The goal was always to get done and get out of the grocery store as quick as possible. Oh yes, I remember those days.
Read More Same Power
Do you have a song that you listen to over and over? One of my current favorite songs has a line that goes something like this: The same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in us. Not beside us, not in front of us but INSIDE us. When I hear that, I get so pumped up. The same power lives in us!!
Read More Every Scar Tells a Story
Every scar tells a story. I am sure you can remember the story of how you received the scar. Many of you could even tell every detail of what happened that day. We all have physical scars that are visible from the outside. But, what about the scars that are on the inside? The ones that maybe only you know about and hurt more than the outside scars did.
The beautiful thing about the inside scars is that Jesus can bring healing to them. He wants to take away the pain from any experience that has scared you. Jesus wants to help us remove the bitterness, the unforgiveness and sadness we may still experience. Jesus is able. But, we need to let Him. Why is it that we don’t?
Read More The Little Things
Baby ducks, an eggshell in cookie dough, missing books and movie, a clay flower in the freezer. These are all very random and little things. You may wonder why I am even making this list. This list reminds me that God cares about the little things. Over the past several months I have taken note of the way God has provided and answered prayers. It has been so fun to be on the lookout.
Read More A Stone Bridge
“I don’t want to!” whined our 3-year-old son. No amount of coaxing could get Caleb on the stone bridge. My husband was trying to get a picture of all four of our kids on this really cool stone bridge.
Read More Hurry up! We have to go!
Do you find yourself in a hurry often? Do you find yourself saying to your kids, “Hurry up! We have to go!” Me too! All too often in fact. As I reflected on this more, I realized that I am the problem. It’s not my kids. Yes, they are slow to move sometimes but they aren’t the reason we are running late so much. I am the problem. Ouch! There are several conclusions I have come to.
